Student After-school Activities


  • Third Grade Homework Help

    Students in 3rd grade have the opportunity to stay after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Students can then take the 4:00 bus home, be picked up by a parent/guardian at Gate 1, or go to Aftercare (if registered).

     

    Fourth Grade Homework Help

    Students in 4th grade have the opportunity to stay after school Monday-Thursday to get help with their homework.  Students can then take the 4:00 bus home, be picked up by a parent/guardian at Gate 1, or go to Aftercare (if registered). 

     

    Middle School Homework Help and Tutoring

    Students in 5th through 8th grades can come to the library after school to work on homework, get academic support, and complete projects.  It’s open every day, Monday through Friday, from 3:00 to 4:00 pm.  Students can then take the 4:00 bus home or be picked up by a parent/guardian at Gate 1.

     

    Photography Club (begins on September 19 - Room 212)

    Learn how to take great pictures and edit online.  You will be creating fun photo projects as well!  The club will meet every Tuesday from 3:00 to 4:00 pm in Room 212 and is open to all 4th through 6th graders.  Students can then take the 4:00 bus home, be picked up by a parent/guardian at Gate 1, or go to Aftercare (if registered).

     

    Garden Club (begins on September 19 - FACS Room)

    Learn about gardening techniques and sustainable practices, stages of plant development, and how to grow plants from seeds, bulbs, and cuttings. You'll also harvest, prune, and prepare the school's garden beds for winter.  The club will meet Tuesdays from 3:00-4:00 in the FACS Room and is open to 2nd through 4th graders.  Students can then take the 4:00 bus home, be picked up by a parent/guardian at Gate 1, or go to Aftercare (if registered).  

     

    Chess Club (begins on September 22 - Room 243)

    Learn new strategies in the great game of Chess.  The club will meet on Fridays in Room 243 and is open to all 3rd through 8th graders.  Students can then take the 4:00 bus home, be picked up by a parent/guardian at Gate 1, or go to Aftercare (if registered).

       

    3-D Printing Club (registration coming soon)

    Learn how to make 3D models on TinkerCAD and then print your designs. You can even take home all the designs you print.  Let your creative imagination go wild!  The club meets from 3:00 to 4:00 pm in Room 203 and is open to all 5th through 8th graders.  Students can then take the 4:00 bus home or be picked up by a parent/guardian at Gate 1.

     

    Poco Heartbeats (registration coming soon)

    Poco Heartbeats is Pocantico's elementary/middle school literary magazine. It contains everything from memoirs to comics to poems. Writers have a place to share both their original work and pieces from school that they are especially proud of.  The club is open to all 4th through 8th graders.  Students can then take the 4:00 bus home or be picked up by a parent/guardian at Gate 1. 

     

    The Hawk - School Newspaper (dates to be determined - Music Room)

    The Hawk is the school's student-run news outlet where students of varied writing, photography, cartooning and editing levels gather to dish out what's happening!  Its mission is to promote positive school spirit, highlight school-related events and projects, and strengthen the school-community connection.  Students of all ages contribute articles through class interviews and voluntary submission from classroom teachers. The Hawk has featured articles on district initiatives, school-wide assemblies, classroom events, trips, and sports, as well as reviews, interviews, advice and helpful tips.  Visit The Hawk web page to see all the exciting news happening around the district.

     

    Yearbook Team (dates to be determined - Room 212)

    Students in 7th and 8th grade can participate in helping to put together the yearbook for the 2023-2024 school year.  See Mrs. Garrido for details.
